6th Grade Syllabus or “How does this class work?”

 This syllabus will give you a rough idea of what to expect in this class.  How well you do depends on your attitude and adventure!  I believe you will do outstanding!

1.      Time Period: Pre-History to Exploration of the Americas.

2.      3-ring binder:  used for 1) notes, 2) assignments, 3)journaling *Organization

3.      Books must be covered!  Notes will be handed in each quarter to be graded.  Assignments and journaling will be kept in the binder.

4.      Extra Credit will be offered to all students once in awhile.  Please don’t pass up this opportunity to help your grade!  If you want to be challenged, I will talk with you about some ideas.

5.      Computer:  We will use the internet as often as we can!  Along with this we will attempt to make a project using Power Point.  My video projector needs to be given lots of care – it is my baby! 

6.      Note taking styles: Gallery Walk, Advanced Organizers, Traditional, Student Led, Paraphrasing, and maybe Gameshows.

7.      Activities that will be graded assignments: Role-Play, Newspapers, Models, Drawings, Newscast, Olympics, and __________________! Parents, your child will need to purchase at least 2 boxes of sugar cubes for our pyramid project.

8.      Quizzes will be given.  You will have time to study the material ahead of time.  These usually are only worth 10-25 points.    *Study Skills

9.      Tests:  I believe in giving study guides!  These will help you study for the test.  We will have study sessions before tests at 7:30 am the morning of the test.

10.  Library of books and other things (I will have a website up soon!)

11.  You need: 1) 3 ring binder  2)loose leaf paper  3) Pencils, red pen 4)subject dividers

      5) highlighter 6)Color Pencils

12. Late Work – 10% off the first day; my choice on 2+ days.
